Asscher Cut Diamond Rings
Ever looked into one of those infinity mirrors where the reflections keep going? An Asscher has a bit of that going on.
It's a square step cut with the corners cropped, so from the top it looks almost eight sided. The facets sit in squares inside squares and pull your eye right down into the middle. It's quieter than a brilliant, big flashes instead of glitter, but it's got real depth.
We set GIA and IGI certified lab grown and natural Asschers on Granville Street and look at every one ourselves first.

These three get mixed up all the time, so quick version.
An emerald cut is a rectangular step cut. An Asscher is a square step cut, usually deeper, with bigger cropped corners. A princess is square too but it's a brilliant cut with sharp corners and way more sparkle.
If you want that calm, layered step cut look in a square, it's the Asscher.
When we look at Asschers with you we check:

Choosing Your Asscher
Say you buy an Asscher online without seeing it, and when it shows up there's a little crystal sitting right in the middle that you can see from arm's length. That's the risk with this cut. Those wide open facets don't hide anything.
So look at the real stone. Colour too, since a step cut makes warmth more obvious. It's worth going a grade whiter than you would for a round.
Asschers also sit deep. That's where the lovely depth comes from, but it means they face up a touch smaller than a princess at the same weight.
Ratio wise, keep it between 1.00 and 1.05 so it reads as a proper square.
The Asscher is striking on its own, but the setting can change its whole personality.

Lab Grown or Natural
Since clarity matters so much with an Asscher, a natural stone that looks clean can be expensive.
Lab grown Asschers are a good answer. They're real diamonds with the same grading, and you can usually get a cleaner, whiter stone for the money.
If natural is important to you, that's fine too. We'll help you find one that looks clean to your eye and fits your budget.
Here's how we make an Asscher cut ring with you.
It's for people who want something distinctive and calm rather than flashy.
