Oval Engagement Rings
Say you've got a budget for about a one and a half carat diamond. As a round, it's lovely. As an oval, it looks bigger, because more of it sits on top. That's the oval's whole trick.
It's cut a lot like a round, just stretched out with soft ends, so you keep most of the sparkle. Your fingers look longer too.
Every oval we use is GIA or IGI certified, lab grown or natural, picked with you at our Granville Street studio.

Fun fact you'll wish you didn't know: almost every oval has a darker strip through the middle. People call it the bow tie.
Little one, no worries. Big dark one, keep looking.
You can't see it on the certificate, so we'd rather show you the real stone. Pop in, or we'll send a video.

Choosing Your Oval
Ovals go from nearly round to long and skinny. The number for that is the length to width ratio.
Most people end up somewhere between 1.35 and 1.50, the classic oval. Get up past 1.55 and it's long and dramatic. Under 1.30 it gets a bit chubby, which, funnily enough, some people really like.
Your hand matters here. A longer oval can look great on a wider finger. Petite hands sometimes suit something a touch rounder.
Honestly, just try two on. You'll know in about a minute.
A few ways people tend to set an oval, and what we like about each.

Wearing an Oval Every Day
Ovals are pretty easy to live with. No sharp points to chip, and the rounded ends sit comfortably next to a wedding band.
Four prongs are the usual choice. Some people go with six, or with double claws at each end, for a bit more security if they're hard on their hands.
If you plan to wear a straight band beside it, ask about a slightly raised setting so the two sit flush. And bring it in once a year so we can check the prongs and give it a proper clean.
From first look to finished ring, here's the process.
Honestly, the reasons people love ovals are pretty simple.
You get more diamond on top for your money.
Long shape, long looking fingers.
It's basically a stretched round, so the fire's still there.
